In lessons you will study podcasts or videos and the accompanying transcripts, shifting your attention between these formats to more thoroughly commit the new knowledge to memory.  This material will be studied to improve understanding of English forms, but also to stimulate discussion. Indeed, the media which forms part of your course will have been selected not only for the linguistic techniques it demonstrates, but for its entertainment value. This is because a foreign language is learned most effectively at the same time as learning or talking about something interesting.

During the lesson, I will correct any important errors that you make, and offer stylistic suggestions where appropriate. You will be reminded of previous errors and suggestions at the beginning and the end of each lesson, and a record of these will be given to you at the end of each lesson for reference.  

In addition to formal homework exercises, I will encourage you to experiment with the items on the lesson transcript – to insert each target word or phrase into a novel context to assist assimilation. I will mark homework exercises using screen capture software and return your assignments by email. You will be given both a copy of the marked work and a link to a video commentary. 

Lessons are conducted on the ‘Zoom’ platform.

My courses are designed for students whose CEFR level is B1 or higher, and who wish to commit to a medium to long-term course of study. The instruction and the opportunity for free exploration of English available over the course of the programme is sufficient for progress equal to one whole CEFR level at the conclusion of each programme.

Each programme of general English comprises thirty lessons, each of 90 minutes duration.

Each student is entitled to a free 45 minute introductory lesson / consultation
