Experience
My career as an English / ESOL / EFL / ESL teacher spans over 10 years. I have been teaching English to children, teenagers and adults in primary schools, colleges, councils and private settings.
I have experience in teaching towards exams (Skills for Life, Trinity, British Citizenship, European Framework, etc), English for work as well as general English for communication and everyday life.
I have taught students from over 30 countries in 1:1, smaller and bigger group settings, always in English.
I have graduated from Huddersfield University with a Level 6 PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) as my specialist subject.
I have also completed a postgraduate course in Bilingualism in Education which gave me practical knowledge of teaching school subjects in English to children and young people who don’t speak English as their first language. It also allows me to teach English to people who have never learnt it before, without the need to use their first language!
In addition, I have a Master’s Degree in Slavonic Philology (Bulgarian and Russian languages). I also have an IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) qualification which enables me to support my students looking for work or other courses.
I am a chairperson for the Yorkshire and Humberside branch of NATECLA (National Association for Teachers of English and Community Languages to Adults) as well as a member of its Management Council on the national level. It allows me to keep up-to-date with my subject knowledge and training.
Finally, I have a current DBS check which means I have no previous criminal record.
Methodology
The first lesson is always free - it allows me to discuss with you, as my potential student, your needs and motivation and carry out a very detailed assessment of your level. I would like to know why you want to improve your English - for everyday communication, for work, for travel or maybe you are preparing for a particular exam. I also want to know your strengths and gaps so that my lessons are tailored exactly to your needs.
After the first lesson, using your personal aims and my extensive knowledge and experience, I will prepare a learning plan which will enable you to achieve your goals. I will share it with you in our second lesson. After that, your learning will start. All in a friendly, enjoyable, stress-free environment.
But your learning will not only be happening during the lesson, I will invite you to my Facebook group (where we can chat in-between our lessons for extra practice and you can meet other students learning English) and I will suggest some other English learning groups that are worth joining and apps that are worth using. I will be setting you homework tasks and marking them before each lesson to give you detailed feedback. I will be sending you interesting videos and podcasts to watch and listen to. Occasionally, you will have a native guest teacher so that you can practise your speaking and listening with a different person in a more real life situations. I would love you to immerse yourself in the English language! That’s the best and quickest way to learn it.
You will not need to buy any books (unless you want to!). I have an ever expanding library of resources to make our lessons effective but fun.
And if £20/60mins still sounds like a lot for all the things mentioned above, here are some options to make it cheaper:
- Block of 5 lessons - 5% off
- Block of 10 lessons - 10% off
- Refer a friend who books at least 1 paid lesson - 30% off your next lesson
- Join with a group of friends (you need to be approximately at the same level) or let me know you would like to join group lessons - prices depend on the number of people in the group
And remember, the first lesson is always free and there is no obligation to book any further lessons.*]
