I am a native English speaker (raised in Canada). This means I have greater natural fluency and knowledge of the real English that the North Americans use (as well as other English-speaking nations) - more than non-native English teachers, even with C2 level qualifications. Equally important is my knowledge of North American culture - knowing the English that the North Americans REALLY use in different contexts. As a TESOL certified instructor with over six years of experience, I bring a wealth of expertise in English education to the table. My background includes crafting tailored Education Plans for students, preparing them for ESL exams like TOEFL. I’ve taught in various settings, from online classrooms to personalized tutoring sessions, honing my skills in creating engaging lessons that inspire active participation.

Drawing from my extensive experience, I excel in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and making mistakes, essential aspects of language learning. My teaching approach involves providing constructive feedback and personalized support to address each student’s unique needs.

Most of my students simply want to improve their spoken English. So, in a typical lesson you revise useful vocabulary from the previous lesson, analyze some grammar you’ve had problems with and discuss an article, video or podcast that I have emailed to you. This format gives you practice in reading about, listening to and speaking on a range of topics, extends your vocabulary and systematically reviews your grammar.

However, the lesson is yours, so if you want to focus on something else, just tell me! Other things that students want to include: checking emails or other texts, practicing for job interviews and discussing the language they’ve heard elsewhere.

Before we meet, I ask you to complete a placement test and needs assessment form, which you email back to me. The test checks your language level and identifies any initial grammar problems. Based on this, I will send you some material to prepare for the first lesson. The assessment form tells me what you want from the lessons – we will confirm this when we first meet.
